Ethnic Caucus Presidents Discuss Advocacy at JCLC

"Diversity, leadership, and community engagement were the three main themes at Thursday evening’s plenary/all-conference session at the Joint Conference of Librarians of Color (JCLC) in Kansas City, Missouri. While each leader of the five ethnic caucuses discussed how these three topics play a role within their associations, a few other common themes surfaced: branding, membership, and advocacy."

In honor of the Joint Conference of Librarians of Color 2012 (JCLC), which began on Wednesday 9/19 in Kansas City, MO, LJ caught up with Co-Chairs and the Program Chair of the Conference to hear their views on some of the challenges facing librarians of color today.

Join the current presidents of our individual associations as they come together to set the stage for the 2nd Joint Conference of Librarians of Color. The panel discussion, moderated by ALA President Maureen Sullivan, will feature a discussion on leadership, service to our communities, and the importance of diversity within our profession. Speakers include Janice Kowemy (AILA), Jade Alburo (APALA), Jerome Offord, Jr. (BCALA), Esther Lee (CALA), and Denice Adkins (REFORMA). This session is one you won’t want to miss!
